The Art of Mindfulness: Relaxed and Focused Colouring is published and was very kindly sent to me for review by Michael O’Mara Books. This book contains a large number of natural images and many of these include patterns within them in a zentangle-style to create lots of small spaces that can be coloured over or within to create different effects. There are also a large number of patterned pages that contain abstract images, repeating designs, crazy shapes and more. If you liked Color Me Calm and Color Me Happy then you’re sure to love this book because it contains illustrations from Angela Porter who illustrated both of them and her style is very unique and striking with its flowing scenes that you can’t quite tell whether they’re scenery or just abstract shapes. The natural images include dolphins, birds, flowers, mountains, stars, peacocks and so much more. This book is a great all-rounder and perfect for beginners who want to try a bit of everything or anyone who enjoys colouring a huge variety of designs. The line thickness ranges from thin to medium/thick and mostly resides within the medium range so this is a good book for those of you who struggle a little with fine motor control or who don’t have perfect vision and still want to be able to colour some fairly intricate and detailed images. This is a lovely book which is perfect for practising mindfulness because the details force you to concentrate and this can be used as a great distraction technique when you’re feeling anxious or low and really need to get out of your own head.

The Art of Mindfulness: Peace and Calm Colouring – A Review

The Art of Mindfulness: Peace and Calm Colouring is published and was very kindly sent to me for review by Michael O’Mara Books. This book contains approximately a 50:50 split between patterns and pictures of scenes and animals. The patterns are not geometric, repeating patterns and they’re not boring, they’re abstract images, zentangled sections, flowing lines and swirling sections. I’m not a fan of colouring patterns because I tend to get quite bored of doing each section the same (the perfectionist in me forces me to do this) but these are lovely and really interesting. Those of you who like Color Me Calm and Color Me Happy are sure to love this book because a number of the illustrations have been created by the same illustrator of those books and her work is very distinctive with flowing abstract patterns that are ideal for practising mindfulness. The natural images are really lovely too and include plenty of birds, leaves, flowers, various animals and even depictions of weather and modes of transport. There is something for everyone in this book and it’s ideal for new colourers who want to try a bit of everything or seasoned colourers who love variety. The line thickness in this book is mostly thin so you will need good vision and fine motor control to make the most out of this book but it doesn’t need to be perfect and the images aren’t super detailed and intricate so they won’t be increasing your stress levels. This is a great book for mental health both for calming down your symptoms and practising mindfulness and it’s a really lovely addition to the series.
